BMW "The small escape"
On-set-VFX-Supervision
Budapest, Hungary
September 2019
This project was one of my favourites of 2019. Filmed for BMW in Budapest, the film tells the story of how during the separation of Berlin, an ingenious way to smuggle east germans out to West Germany was devised by hiding them inside the tiniest of cars: the BMW Isetta.

The VFX tasks included extending the "death strip" into the distance, creating street perspectives towards the horizon, adding and removing buildings and lights, as well as the usual cleanup needed when filming in Budapest 2019 and portraying Berlin 1963.

This was my second collaboration with director Alex Feil within a short time, and my first ever with DOP Khalid Mohtaseb.

The set design by Erwin Prib won various awards, and we as VFX were proud to have been part of the team who made his design of 1963 Berlin come to life.

The VFX work done at Spellwork Pictures involved:
     • shot previs
     • on-set VFX supervision (incl. LIDAR-scanning the sets)
     • matte painting
     • CGI
     • compositing
     • conform and delivery for grading
